2009 Year in Review
>> Jan 07, 2010 By: Beth LaMeeWe come to the close of another amazing year in the life of our church. You, as faithful participants in so many worship opportunities, have made an impact in the lives of people you don’t even know. Listed below are the major events of this past year.
- We kicked the new year off with a choir officer dinner party at Scott & Cheryl’s house on January 24. Scott did the home-cooking himself!
- Philippe Bertaud & friends presented a classical guitar concert on February 7 raising thousands of dollars for our local mission efforts.
- The Ash Wednesday service on February 25 is always a well-attended and inspirational service. Thanks for your faithful participation.
- We had an extra special privilege this year to host a Venezuelan Women’s Choir who performed a concert for us on March 2 and then went to host homes for fun, fellowship and good ol’ Methodist hospitality!
- Best from Broadway was presented on March 27 & 28. This fun-filled evening of Broadway show-stoppers brought together some of the best singers from our area as we raised money for the Europe trip.
- Our 2nd annual “Instruments of Praise” Orchestral Concert on May 17 featured jazz, Dixieland, contemporary, and classical pieces beautifully performed by our wonderfully talented musicians.
- In July, 44 of our chancel choir members & family experienced a very successful trip to Europe (Austria, Germany, and Switzerland) as they celebrated the music of Haydn, Handel and Mendelssohn. We held 5 concerts including a mass concert with several others choirs as part of the Haydn International Choral Festival. The hills were alive with the sound of music!
- The Mansfield Community Theatre’s inaugural performance of “The Sound of Music” presented on August 7 & 8 was very successful and well-attended. Many of our choir members were involved as Dr. Scott directed and John McLain became Capt. Von Trapp.
- Our “Re-launch Choir” luncheon on August 30 kicked off our fall recruitment campaign. A catered dinner from “Babe’s Chicken House” was enjoyed by all! We added nearly twenty new faces to our choir this fall!
- The days of September 20 & 21 broke new ground for Scott and our choir as we recorded our latest CD with accompaniment track. This professional quality CD has had rave reviews and has raised over $8000 for our Ball Hall concert.
- Our terrific handbell choirs presented their concert “Hymns for Him” on October 17. The selections included arrangements of many favorite hymns and was well received.
- “Carry the Light”, our latest CD, was formally released at our concert on November 1 featuring our Chancel Choir, Chancel Orchestra and soloists. Over 500 were in attendance worshipping and singing together.
- Our Veteran’s Day Celebration on November 11 was highlighted by our “Armed Forces Salute” and the dramatic presentation of uniforms for all American wars.
- First Family Christmas ‘09 was a treat for all who attended, both visually stunning and superbly performed by choirs, orchestra and soloists. What a gift to our congregation and community! Thank you!
