Thoughts on the Tennessee Mission Trip, September 2011

Wow!  What a week – God truly is awesome and Big Enough.  What a great group of people to share this giving experience with – from our local coordinators James and Carleton to our clients and team members.  I felt so blessed to lead a team and be part of the “rovers”.  It was great to see Nashville and its generous heart.  Working at the Newman United Methodist Church was fun and everyone on the team worked so hard and displayed such a loving and giving spirit.  This was evident throughout the trip, whether on the work site or at the generous Bellevue United Methodist Church where we stayed.

Being able to assist Mr. Minor was also a blessing and especially neat to met his young son-in-law, a Marine PFC.  Mr. Minor’s love of our Lord was so evident.  We also experienced seeing the finished homes and delivering furniture to those who had lost so much.  We were especially blessed to meet Nashville’s own “Lady Avis” whom our second team helped.  The transformation of her home was truly miraculous and to experience the joy and love she shared with us was such a blessing.  I have a feeling that our presence was not only part of the transformation of her home but of her heart.

The theme of water played a big role in my week.  Being part of a flood disaster recovery team, the use of water by God seemed so appropriate.  Listening to God calling each of us to “Come, step out and take a risk” was so important.  I reflected on how easy it is to stay in our own little world and be safe.  God truly does ask us to step out of our comfort zones and take a risk.  What is God calling me to do?

I pray that He will open the doors and allow me to grow in faith, patience and give my soul the rest it needs.  I end this with “Praise God” from whom all blessings flow.
