First United Methodist Church is proud to sponsor Boy Scout Troop 1993, an active and relevant youth organization for boys age 11-18. Troop 1993 teaches leadership, duty to God, citizenship, personal fitness, and character for some of Mansfield’s finest young men.
Involvement in scouting is a good predictor of academic success, service to our country, and leadership in business. We develop leadership skills in our “boy run” troop by teaching the privileges of citizenship, helping build life skills, promoting self-reliance, teaching reverence for God, respect for authority, and providing leadership opportunities.
Our values are reflected in the Scout Oath, which is recited at every troop meeting:
On my honor
I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and obey the Scout law;
To help other people at all times
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake and morally straight.
