Big Hope

Big Hope is a joint program of Kids Hope USA and Big Brothers Big Sisters where a church is partnered with a local elementary school to mentor at-risk children. National research has shown that these positive mentoring relationships have a direct and measurable impact on the children’s lives. By helping the children feel valued and loved, they are more confident in their school performance, they get along better with their families and they are less likely to begin using illegal drugs or alcohol. First Methodist Mansfield currently partners with Alice Ponder Elementary.

There are several ways to serve with Big Hope; each role is an important, vital part of this ministry.

  1. Support Team
  2. Big Hope Mentors — Mentors spend one hour each week reading, talking, playing with and listening to a child at the school, building an ongoing, one-on-one relationship.
  3. Big Hope Prayer Partners — Prayer Partners support one Mentor and his/her student through prayer each week.
  4. Big Hope Subs — Substitute Mentors meet with students when the regular Mentors are not available.
