A Note From Pastor David

by Pastor David Alexander
A Note From Pastor David

Dear First Family,

After a soggy Halloween Night, it looks like a beautiful weekend ahead. I want to thank all those who invested in our annual Trunk or Treat event last Saturday and celebrate the great success of our annual Pumpkin Patch which raised over $14,500 this year for mission projects our students will do in the year ahead to bless individuals and families in our local community.

I am proud of your ongoing commitment towards the goal of changing lives.

There are several things I want to highlight for today.

In all services this weekend we mark All Saints Day with a special time of honoring the saints who have been received into God’s eternal glory in this last year. We continue to pray for God’s blessing and comfort for their family. I hope you will be present for this important act of remembrance for our faith family.

We mark All Saints Day in the middle of our ongoing Together Building Campaign which I think has additional significance. We all stand on the shoulders of the giants who have come before us. Even as we give thanks, we pray and prepare for the future. As faith marked the lives of the Saints, we pray it would be what defines our lives as well.

If you have missed any of the previous messages in this series, you can find those here.

To learn more about the plans developed to address our current and future facility needs and to take a virtual tour, visit this link.

I do hope you will make every effort to be in worship this weekend. I will not spoil the surprise but will tell you that I have something very special to share with you that I think will be deeply meaningful for our whole church family to see.

A few additional things that are coming up soon…

  • If you are a guest interested in making a membership commitment to First Methodist Mansfield, our next Starting Point will be this Wednesday, November 7th at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary. Starting Point is a casual and relaxed gathering where participants will learn more about our church, our mission, what we believe, and share any questions you may have as well. Childcare is available upon registration.
  • Next Saturday, November 10th, the City of Mansfield will be having a Veteran’s Day Parade and Salute event at RL Anderson Stadium. The salute event will feature many of our musicians and choir members and our very own, Elmer Ward, will be the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade. You can read more about Elmer and his service to our nation by checking out this article from the Mansfield Citizen.
  • Finally, if you have not already, I want to encourage you to vote this coming Tuesday.  I want to encourage you to be an active participant in the selection of leaders for our community, state, and nation.
  • Additionally, I want to invite you to cast a different kind of vote today. Tarver Rendon Elementary is in the running for $100,000 grant from the Farmer’s Insurance Thank America’s Teacher program to benefit their dynamic elementary agricultural program. To help bless this local school, simply visit this link and cast your vote for Tarver Rendon Elementary.

A beautiful and important weekend is about to begin. I hope to see you in worship!

Grace & Peace,
Pastor David
