A Note From Pastor Davidby Pastor David Alexander
Dear First Family,
This weekend I will be sharing with you the final message in our Elephant in the Room message series. Unlike previous weeks, this weekend’s topic is one I want you to know about in advance because of the additional sensitivity it might have, especially for those families who regularly attend worship together.
If you have not already, I hope you will take a moment to watch this video where I share the focus for this weekend and what we hope to do in addressing this difficult issue.
With the conclusion of this first series of the year, we look forward to the beginning of the season of Lent and our next series, The Witness of Mark.
During this six week season in 2017, we read the Gospel of Luke together through our First 15 devotional resource. Our sermon series followed that journey and we shared curriculum with all our small groups and classes that shared that focus. We look forward to doing that again in 2018 with the Gospel of Mark.
This weekend in worship you will have the chance to pick up a bookmark for your Bible which has all of the daily readings listed. If you have not already signed up to receive The First 15 via email, you can do so here.
Our journey will begin this coming Wednesday, February 14th, which we mark as Ash Wednesday. It is the first day of Lent, a time of confession and repentance where we remember the words of Genesis 3:19, “for dust you are and to dust you will return.” On this sacred day, Ashes represent the greatness of God’s grace meeting us at the place of our own mortality.
I hope you will make every effort to be a part of our Ash Wednesday service that evening at 7:00 pm in our Sanctuary. I am so grateful for those opportunities where the various worshipping communities that gather each weekend all come together for these special services.
If you are unable to attend that evening, please note that you can receive the imposition of ashes from 6:30 am - 8:00 am and from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm in our Chapel on Wednesday as well.
Finally today, I want to highlight our Small Group Launch which will take place this Sunday afternoon at 5:00 pm in the Loft. At this one hour launch, you will have the chance to hear more about why we believe connecting with a group is so important and have the chance to get connected to a group that best fits your needs and schedule.
I hope to see you in worship this weekend as we wrap up Elephant in the Room.
Grace & Peace,
